Rafael Tufiño

Rafael Tufiño was born in 1922 in Brooklyn, New York, but moved with his
family to San Juan, Puerto Rico, while still young. He studied drawing
and painting at the Academia de San Carlos in Mexico City and returned
to Puerto Rico in 1950, taking up work at the Taller de Gráfica of the
División de Educación. In the same year, along with Carlos Raquel Rivera
and Lorenzo Homar, among others, he co-founded the Centro de Arte
Puertorriqueõ in San Juan. In 1957 he began his association with the
Taller de Gráfica of the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueã. Tufiño
maintained his own workshop in San Juan until his death.   Tufiño is surely considered one of the most accomplished masters when looking at the various DIVEDCO artists.
